What garage door dimensions are available?

A standard garage door has a width of 2,500 x 2,250 mm. In addition to standard garage door sizes, special garage door solutions are also available to accommodate extra small, extra large or extra low door dimensions.

Dimensions for small garages

Smaller garages often require space-saving solutions. For this purpose, heroal has developed the RD 55 roller garage door. The narrow roller garage door bar has a coverage width of 55 mm and a nominal thickness of only 14 mm. The roll-formed slat is particularly narrow and can be tightly wound. Due to the small barrel diameter, box sizes starting from 230 mm are possible. heroal RD 55 roller garage doors can be used up to the following garage door dimensions:

Dimensions for large garages

For large garages, heroal has developed the heroal RD 75 roller garage door. This roller garage door is a space-saving solution for doors that are particularly wide and tall. The somewhat wider slat has a coverage width of 75 mm and a nominal thickness of only 20 mm. To fit your design needs, you can choose either a see-through, grille or ventilation profile. The slats for the heroal RD 75 roller garage door are available in either a roll-formed or extruded version. heroal RD 75 roller garage doors can be used up to the following garage door dimensions:

Dimensions for garages with limited height

For garages with low lintel heights, heroal has developed the heroal OD 75 overhead door. A slightly wider slat with a coverage width of 75 mm and a nominal thickness of 20 mm is used in overhead doors with a centre or side-mounted drive. The garage door runs reliably along a guide rail installed directly under the ceiling. In combination with a side-mounted drive, a lintel height of 65 mm is sufficient for installing your heroal roller garage door. Larger garage doors up to 4x4 m can use a centre-mounted drive provided a minimum lintel requirement of just 135 mm. The OD 75 overhead door can be used for installations with following maximum dimensions:

Our garage door lexicon

Here is an explanation of the most common terms that come up in the context of garage door sizes.

Barrel diameter The barrel diameter is the diameter of the roller shutters when wound up; this determines the required box size.
Coverage width The visible height of the roller garage door slat when the roller garage door is closed.
Vertical clearance Vertical clearance refers to the clear height of the element minus the encroachment of the shutter curtain in the guide rails. The encroachment should be at least as wide as the slats that are used.
Clearance width The clearance width or clear width refers to the distance from wall to wall in the building opening. The element opening refers to the distance between the garage door's guide rails. If they are installed on the wall, the clear width of the building opening corresponds to that of the element opening. If the roller garage door is installed in the soffit, the clear width of the element opening corresponds to the building opening minus 2x the size of the guide rail.
Clearance height This refers to the free vertical space, i.e. the distance from edge to edge.
Nominal thickness The nominal thickness is the visible thickness of a roller garage door slat.
Roll-formed In the production of roller garage door slats, a roller is used to bring an aluminium strip into the required shape.
Extruded In the production of roller garage door slats, the raw aluminium is heated and pressed through a mould.
